Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most frequently asked questions about beekeeping record-keeping and how ApiTracer works. Each answer links to the page that details the step-by-step process.
Traceability and beekeeping registers
What is honey traceability, and why keep it up to date?
Honey traceability means linking every jar or drum sold back to the harvest and the hives it came from, so the origin of a batch can be traced in case of a health issue or an inspection. ApiTracer automates this chain with a storage code assigned to each container, linked to the harvest and then to extraction.
What is a honey house log?
The honey house log is the register that lists extracted honey batches and their traceability through to jarring. In ApiTracer, this document is part of the Documents generated automatically from the weighings and storage codes already recorded, with no manual re-entry.
What is a beekeeping breeding register?
The breeding register lists health interventions and the changes in a herd's headcount over time. In ApiTracer, it has two parts, accessible from Documents: tracking the operations carried out on colonies, and the change in colony numbers over time.
How do I know the net weight of honey harvested per hive?
The net weight of honey per super is calculated automatically as soon as it's weighed at the honey house, by subtracting the tare (fixed for a given super type) from the gross weight. The honey type still needs to be assigned at the end-of-extraction step for that weight to count in the production statistics.
Tracking the herd
How do I track my herd's winter loss rate?
By reporting each loss with its cause (disease, starvation, swarming, varroa...) and noting whether it happened during overwintering. ApiTracer then distinguishes, in the statistics, the winter loss rate from the in-season loss rate — a reference indicator for assessing a herd's resilience from one year to the next.
How do I organize a transhumance while keeping my colonies traceable?
By moving hives in a batch to their destination apiary with a precise date (Transhumance). Each hive's history keeps a record of all its successive apiaries, making it possible to reconstruct the season's moves both for production tracking and for the regulatory traceability of colony locations (see the Map).
How do I compare the quality of my colonies or stocks from one year to the next?
By scoring each colony on predefined criteria (gentleness, frame behavior, tendency to swarm...) at regular intervals (Evaluations). These scores are then aggregated in the statistics, by stock, by apiary, or by season, to decide which colonies to breed from or renew.
ApiTracer: how it works and pricing
Does the mobile app work without an internet connection in the field?
Yes: field actions (harvest, operations, losses, transhumance...) are saved locally on the phone first, then synchronized with the management website as soon as a connection is available. Nothing is lost in a dead zone at the apiary.
Which platforms are available for ApiTracer?
ApiTracer runs on three complementary platforms: the management website (accessible from any browser, no install), the mobile app (Android and iOS) for field data entry, and an optional connected weighing station at the honey house (PRO III plan, see Pricing).
Is ApiTracer free?
ApiTracer offers a free plan (PRO) for one user and up to 100 hives, with the mobile app and basic per-apiary tracking. The paid plans (PRO I, II, III) add the full management website, production in kilograms, manual or automatic weighing entry, and a connected weighing station — see the details on the Pricing page.
How much does ApiTracer cost for an operation with several apiaries and several users?
The PRO II (€300 excl. tax/year) and PRO III (€480 excl. tax/year, plus €2,600 excl. tax for the weighing station) plans give access to an unlimited number of users and hives — suited to an operation with several people or several apiaries. See the plan details on the Pricing page.
Who can access my operation's data in ApiTracer?
Each account created for your operation has its own access, managed from Users & Access (available from the PRO II plan onward). You decide who has access to your data; no third party accesses it by default.
I forgot my ApiTracer password, how do I reset it?
Click "Forgot password" on the login page and enter your email address: you receive a single-use link, valid for a limited time, to set a new password. No administrator involvement is needed — see Profile & Account.
Can I access several ApiTracer operations with the same login?
Yes: if the same email and password are used on several operations, the "Log in" page on apitracer.fr offers you a choice of which one to access. If they only match one operation, you are signed in directly — see Users & Access.
Can I export my ApiTracer data to Excel or PDF?
Yes: most tables on the management website (statistics, apiaries, hives, weighings, operations...) offer an export to Excel (XLSX) or PDF from their selection menu, limited to the ticked rows or to the filtered table shown on screen.
